Feedback on police services

Feedback on police services can be given verbally or in writing. Written feedback can also be given via this web site. In addition, the police collect feedback on their operations by means of questionnaires and surveys both locally and nationwide. The quality and operating environment of police work is evaluated using a Police Security Barometer carried out by the Ministry of the Interior every other year.

Anyone who believes that a police officer or any other official within the police administration has acted wrongfully or neglected his/her responsibilities can make what is known as an administrative complaint.

Moreover, anyone who suspects that a police officer has committed an offence can report this. The police are obliged to register the report on the basis of the information provided. The report is forwarded without delay to the Office of the Prosecutor General for a possible pre-trial investigation and, which can then appoint a head of investigation. Where a police officer is suspected of an offence, only the prosecutor has the right to decide whether there is reason to suspect that an offence has been committed and whether a pre-trial investigation should be conducted.
