Injured party

The person who reported the offence may be interviewed by the police if that person is also the injured party, namely the person against whom the offence was committed. The police will record all information supplied by the injured party that is considered important for investigating the reported offence.

The police may decide not to interview the injured party if he/she has no further information on the matter under investigation, or if the information necessary for deciding whether charges will be brought in the matter and for judicial proceedings was already supplied by the injured party when reporting the offence or in some other connection.

During the interview, the police will establish the nature and extent of the injury or damage sustained by the injured party and any claims that he/she may have. In the case of a property offence, the amount and quality of stolen property will be ascertained.

The injured party may engage a legal counsel for the pre-trial investigation, who may also be present during the interview. Victims of sex offences and offences of domestic violence may obtain the help of an attorney or support person appointed by the court.

An injured party under the age of 15 must be represented by a parent or guardian, who will present any claims during the interview. The police may interview an injured party under the age of 15 if this is necessary for investigating the offence.
