Issuing an identity card to a minor

On application, an identity card can also be issued to a minor (aged less than 18), provided that his or her guardians give their consent. If necessary, the guardians' consent can be proven by using a separate guardian's consent form, which should be attached to the identity card application.

When applying for an identity card for a minor, the child must always personally attend at the police department as the application is submitted.

On application, a so-called identity card for a minor can be issued to a minor without parental consent. An identity card for a minor cannot be used as a travel document or for e-services. An identity card for a minor is slightly less expensive than a standard identity card. An identity card for a minor is valid for the same period of time as a standard one, or for 5 years.
