Processing times

If you intend to travel, it is advisable to check the validity of your passport in good time. The processing time of a passport is about one week.

In exceptional circumstances, it is possible to obtain a fast-track or express passport faster than this. Issuing fast-track and express passports is an additional service compared to ordinary passports. This means that a restricted number of this type of passports only can be issued in a day to ensure that the delivery of normal passports to customers within the agreed delay is not disrupted. This quota is national. On request, the police department will establish the customer's possibilities of obtaining a fast-track or express passport as the application is submitted.

The police cannot issue Alien's passports or refugee travel documents as a fast-track or express service.

Fast-track passports

The processing time of a fast-track passport is 2-3 working days. An application for a fast-track passport can be submitted and the finished passport may be collected from any police service point providing license services.

Express passports

The delivery time of an express passport is 1 working day. An express passport will be ready on the same day, if the application is submitted before 11 a.m. Otherwise the passport can be collected on the following working day. An express passport application may be submitted in any police service point providing license services. A finished express passport can only be collected from Pasila licence services point of Helsinki Police Department: Pasilanraitio 11, 00240 Helsinki or from the National Traffic Police service point at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.
