Basic guard training

Guard or temporary guard certification can be granted to persons who have satisfactorily completed guard training which meets the requirements laid down by the Ministry of the Interior. Training is carried out under the Vocational Adult Education Act (631/1998).

Temporary guard training comprises a section of basic guarding duties included in the vocational qualification, the length of which is 40 lessons. Guard training consists of such sections of the vocational qualification as basic guarding duties and basic course in guarding or of corresponding sections. Guard training must include at least 100 lessons, out of which the temporary guard training comprises 40 lessons. Only persons who have satisfactorily passed the test related to temporary guard training can participate in guard training.

Provisions on the subjects to be discussed during guard and temporary guard training, the content of training and division of lessons as well as provisions on the related test are given by the Ministry of the Interior Decree on Training for Managers and Guards (780/2002).

Firearms, gas sprays and telescopic batons may only be carried by guards who in addition to basic guard training have undergone special training which qualifies them to carry the forcible means equipment in question. Provisions on the content and length of training and the vocational requirements for providers of training are given by the Ministry of the Interior Decree on Special Forcible Means Training for Guards (781/2002).
