Firearms officer

Firearms officers are approved by the local police.

Applicants must present the association’s or foundation’s decision on approving the applicant as the firearms officer.

The firearms officer will represent the association or foundation in its activities related to the acquisition of firearms. Approval of a firearms officer entitles him/her to acquire, possess and convey items listed under the permit granted to the association or foundation.

Other persons than the firearms officer may be in possession of a firearm owned by the association or foundation only if they have a parallel permit for the firearm or if, under the provisions concerning lending in the Firearms Act, they are entitled to borrow the firearm in question or if they use the firearm in accordance with the Act’s provisions concerning supervised use. A gas spray may not be given to employees under the age of 18.

When firearms officers apply for permits for firearms, they must present

  • a passport, driving licence or ID card
  • an extract from the association’s or foundation’s register
  • articles of the association, or bylaws of the foundation
  • decision by a competent party on the acquisition of the firearm or firearm component
